New cult Rado Captain Cook
Rado Captain Cook watch
Friends, hello everyone, you are on my channel about Feeltime watches, Stanislav is with you as always, and today we will look at the iconic model from the old Swiss brand Rado Captain Cook
2020 was the year of relaunch of many iconic models of the last century.
Rado did not stand aside either, who decided to refresh their legendary Captain Cook model, which first saw the world in 1962.
In fact, in terms of design, the guys didn’t change anything much. This is the essence of the restart.
But at the same time, the quality and manufacturability are of course at the modern level, since we perfectly understand that in those years, some materials were not used, and it was simply impossible to produce the quality that can be produced today.
And since 2020, Rado has released a fairly large number of versions of the Captain Cook model. And they continue to release new versions every year.
Over the course of several years, I managed to show you the very first versions, versions with chronographs, the most charged versions made of plasma ceramics.
Today, it's probably been a year since I last photographed the Rado Captain Cook for you, so I'll be wondering myself how and if my experience with this watch has changed.
Because for the first time it was a feeling like: “Wow... This is RADO Captain Cook.” Now I have a little more experience, and my attitude is lighter and calmer.
Therefore, please do not forget to subscribe, like my work in advance, and I will move on to the model itself.
Let's start with the packaging.
I see some changes. Previously there was a easily soiled white box with a cool travel case inside.
Now the box is not easily soiled, but the case has disappeared somewhere, which is very disappointing. But in general, different watches have different boxes, so I’m not sure that all Rado Captain Cooks come in exactly this box.
There will also be a napkin for caring for the watch, a warranty card and a card with the serial number, which must match the serial number on the back of the watch.
By the way, you can pick it up in my Feeltime online store. Original from the official distributor in Ukraine.
There are different versions of this model .
Plus, upon request, you can bring it to a real store in major cities of Ukraine, come and pick it up locally. For details, please write to my Telegram , links to which I will leave in the description of this video.
As for the model itself, I don’t see any noticeable changes, although this is a newer version.
And I suspect that Rado did not have the task of changing anything. They just add color versions, they can change the trim options, and the packaging can change.
First of all, I just revised my previous review of this model.
And I see that there was a full satin finish on the case, and here the case is 316l stainless steel with a mirror polish.
The quality is great, but I personally prefer the satin finish. Although this is a matter of taste.
Captain Cook is certainly a very beautiful and prominent watch. This is a retro diving style, but even from the photo from the brand itself it is clear that these watches are mainly worn with shirts and jackets.
That is, this watch is still, to some extent, about status and business style. In any case, the Rado Captain Cook model itself is an excellent contender for your first, everyday watch in the entry-level premium segment.
Men in the subject of watches will know what watch you have on your wrist a mile away. And this is always a great reason to start a conversation.
By the way, Rado is always visible from a distance. Most often I come across ceramic models from the Centrix or True collections, but I can immediately identify Captain Cook.
And according to my observations, watches are usually worn either by young, successful guys in evil cars, or by adult men closer to 50.
The design is truly mesmerizing.
Completely round body, quite sharp and sharp lugs. A comfortable, somewhat elongated crown without protective bulges, which conveys the spirit of a vintage diver's watch.
Under a certain bevel, a bezel with a ceramic insert for 120 clicks extends towards the dial.
The grip is extremely comfortable and the rotation is precise and with expensive clicks.
On the back of the case we can see the cool engraving of seahorses and stars on the back of the watch and the fact that the bracelet has a quick-change system, which is very convenient and definitely a big plus.
Rice grain type bracelet.
Looks great, well made. This model also has versions on standard bracelets. This is not for everybody.
Clapper clasp. And before I would have said that it was simple, but now I understand that it is rather thoughtful. After all, the bracelet is quite elegant, and the clasp was made to match it. It is thin and does not create an imbalance - here was a thin bracelet, and then some kind of plump transition on the clasp.
No, the transition is beautiful.
The watch sizes are as follows.
Diameter - 42 mm, from lug to lug - 47 mm, thickness - 12.1 mm, weight - 136 grams on a full bracelet.
On my thin hand it is 18 cm. The girth of the watch fits quite well. Largely due to the fact that the ears are short and thin.
What is the characteristic?
This model has a very stylish sapphire, convex glass with double-sided anti-reflective glass and fish-eye shape, which looks chic.
Water protection - 200 meters. After all, this is a diving model. By the way, there are versions with 300 meters of water protection.
And Rado has its own mechanism on board, but it’s not for nothing that I say “kind of”, since the guys usually make mechanisms based on something.
And as I understand it, this watch has something like ETA caliber C07.611
With a power reserve of 80 hours.
Of course we look at the dial.
I can take the blue version for review, but this time I decided to take the classic - black, since blue and green were already starting to get a little boring. For me personally.
This dial, my friends, is absolutely unique.
A curved plate that is convex in the center and tapered at the edges. Very large markings and arrows. The hands here are super brutal and have a unique shape. Readability is excellent.
The labels, by the way, are printed. This is important, since this is still a relaunch of retro divers, and in the 60s, divers had printed tags.
At the top of the dial is a branded anchor, which, by the way, rotates. On them is the Rado logo, and below is the collection inscription and the treasured Swiss Made inscription.
The date at 3 o'clock is on a light background in red numbers.
And of course the brightest lume.
What can I tell you? Firm company. I like.
What are the prices today?
This particular model today costs 109,260 UAH, which is equivalent to $2,600
The question of whether these watches are worth the money is rhetorical.
And of course, the videos that I write, when I ask a friend how much you would give them, and he, out of ignorance, says: “I would give $200” - this is more humor.
The reality is that this is a very old and well-known brand, the reality is that it is a cult model, the design of which many are inspired by when making their watches.
The reality is that they are really well made. Such a mixture is enough for them to cost what they cost.
Let me remind you that you can pick up this beauty and any of its available versions in my Feeltime online store with an official 2-year guarantee from the distributor in Ukraine.
You can pick it up at the store if there is one in your city. Check the details in my personal telegram , links to which I will leave in the description of the video.
As well as links to the model and the Rado range, I will leave them at the very bottom of the article.
Of course, write your opinion about the watch, so that we don’t have a one-sided game, don’t forget to subscribe, thank you with a like for watching the video, and that’s all for me, Stanislav was with you as always, until we meet again. Bye
