Japanese Citizen watches. A brand that I personally love. A brand that keeps up with the times and produces really cool, high-quality watches at an affordable price tag.
And today we'll take a look at a few fresh models.
Citizen Promaster Skyhawk JY8149-05E
The first model from the Promaster collection, and although Promaster is a diving collection, this one has the addition Skyhawk in the name and belongs to professional, aviation watches.
The brand already had this model when I started working with watches in 2012. And at that time it was something from the WOW category. Because the watch is complicated, the mechanism is technological.
I would like to point out now that we will only look at the outer shell. Because I don't see any point in disassembling the functionality if you don't have the watch on your wrist. You will simply get bored.
The model is equipped with a U680 mechanism with Eco Drive technology, when the battery is powered by any light source and will last you 10-12 years.
The easiest way is to download the manual for this caliber of mechanism and sit down and figure it out. That's the only way with Citizen complications.
The watch really makes me feel pleasantly nostalgic. Big, brutal. The dial is very easily recognizable if you've seen it at least once.
316l stainless steel case. The quality of the finish is not TOP, but very good. Many complex transitions. The buttons are convenient. No problems with ergonomics.
The back cover of the watch is classically Japanese, almost bare. But you can use it to apply your engraving. As an idea.
I really liked the genuine leather strap. It is soft and comfortable. Of course, the integrated mounting in the case will not allow you to play with variations, so this watch will have either a metal, original bracelet or strap.
The clasp was a pleasant surprise. For the Japanese, it looks very beat up. You expect something simpler and cheaper. But not in this version.
In general, Skyhawk models have a number of standard features. This is a slide rule for pilots. This is a calendar, timer, stopwatch, alarms. The functionality is rich.
The dial, by the way, is quite readable, despite the fact that it looks like a super-loaded dashboard of a fighter jet.
Still, you can read the main time without any problems. There is a glow. I wouldn't say it's exactly royal, but it's not bad.
The watch has sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 200 meters, which is a very high figure for an aviation watch. Maybe that's why it was placed in the Promaster collection.
The sizes are large:
Diameter - 46 mm, from lug to lug - 50 mm, thickness - 13 mm, weight - 117 grams.
But this is an aviation watch, it has to be big. And I will say that on my small hand, 18 cm. In volume, it sits quite nicely and comfortably.

Citizen Promaster Land JV1005-02W watch
The second Citizen watch also belongs to the Promaster collection but with the prefix Land. That is, it is a watch for land activities.
In principle, this is what it looks like.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the design. It looks shabby, brutal, and adult.
There is no more angularity here like in the Skyhawk. The watch has a standard, rounded shape, but the large number of valves gives it a non-standard look.
The model is equipped with a high-tech U822 movement with Eco Drive technology and the story is the same as with the Skyhawk. You can’t figure it out without instructions and a glass of beer. In the review, we look only at the external filling.
In general, there is a lot of functionality. First, you can see that we have a digital-analog display. Chronograph, Timer, Calendar, calendar formats, Alarms. You will find everything here, you just have to sit down yourself and figure it out according to the instructions.
Stainless steel case with black IP coating. The quality is very good. The ergonomics of the buttons are again at their best.
The strap pleasantly surprised me. It is thick and flexible at the same time. Textile on top, in the middle a thin strip of genuine leather, like suede. It feels very nice on the hand.
The clasp is again very strong and I was particularly pleased. I'm used to seeing something much simpler from the Japanese for this price.
The back cover is classic fox. This is normal for the Japanese. Let me remind you that you can use it for engraving if you want to make this model memorable.
The specifications are the same as the predecessor: sapphire crystal and 200 meters of water resistance. But if in the previous model 200 meters was somehow unexpected, then here the design directly asks for such a characteristic.
The dial, despite the large number of functions, is readable on the URA. By the way, I forgot to mention that there is also a compass along the edge of the dial.
The color scheme is great. It's such a straight-up, military watch.
It fits perfectly on my hand.

Citizen Tsuyosa NJ0150-81E watch
Moving on. And how could we not look at the hit of the Tsuyoza brand? The model that has become a real calling card of the brand, because last year it showed that the Japanese also know how to spend the maximum on a small budget.
Since then, a bunch of color variations and different sizes have been released, including a unisex 37 mm, and various modifications of the mechanisms.
The model looks very good. The style of the bracelet integrated into the case makes them look like an inseparable whole.
There don't seem to be any unusual shapes in the case, but you immediately recognize it as a "Tsuyoza." And that's a really cool indicator of good design.
Pretty good quality workmanship. The head is conveniently recessed at the 5 o'clock mark so that it doesn't press on your wrist.
Here, through the back cover, you can see your Citizen 8210 caliber with a power reserve of 42 hours. It is a simple but very reliable Japanese mechanical movement with automatic winding.
The bracelet also looks unusual, like a tractor caterpillar. The combination of finishes gives it a nice volume. Again, not the TOP quality of the finish, but it's pretty well done.
The clasp is cast on the outside, stamped on the inside. And the middle is very simple, but somehow it's not annoying in this watch.
What other characteristics do we have?
Sapphire glass, 50 meters of water resistance. And to be honest, you don't need more, the watch doesn't look like it's going to be suitable for swimming.
I like the dial. Everything is clear and to the point. Nothing superfluous. Simple, beautiful, easy to read.
The Cyclops above the date, in my opinion, is also in the topic.
And the model has a really cool light. It works well.

It sits very comfortably on my hand, 18 cm in circumference. Here, the small distance from the lug to the lug, 45 mm, also affects this. Shorter for a small hand is just the TOP.

Citizen NH8390-03XE watch
Next, I want to show you this classic little thing. And if you ask me for an inexpensive watch in a classic style with super quality, this is it. Because it feels like an exception to the rule.
The first is that it simply looks expensive. To me, it's clearly more expensive than it costs. Its price tag is only 10,350 UAH, and nowadays for that kind of money you expect something very budget-friendly, but it doesn't feel like a budget-friendly product.
Of course, there are some superficial points here. This is mineral, convex glass. A small saving. But immediately counteracted by a fairly good, budget, but reliable Japanese mechanics with automatic winding, which can be admired through the back cover of the watch.
There is a pretty good genuine leather strap and a normal clasp. Yes, the strap is not the watch's strong point, and if you put something more expensive, it would be perfect, but for this price the strap is really cool. That's a fact.
But more importantly, the case itself has a really nice build quality. In some ways, I like it more than the more expensive predecessors we've seen.
And the dial is the icing on the cake.
Incredibly nice color in a gradient from green to black. I really like the shapes of the applied marks, the days of the week are very nicely sprinkled in the upper part of the dial.
That is, in my opinion, it is complete harmony. There is a glow, but it is bad, I did not show it.

CITIZEN Series 8 NB6010-81E watch
The last model we'll look at is the brand's true flagship.
Series 8 watches have recently appeared in Ukraine. And the first thing that distinguishes this watch from others is its packaging.
I intentionally didn't show you the boxes of other watches, because there are boxes that you can safely throw in the trash after receiving the watch. Very simple and budget-friendly.
And this watch comes with a really premium box. I've never seen one like this from Citizen, and I have to say it looks and feels more serious than some Swiss watch boxes that can be twice as expensive as this watch.
Everything else is about the external quality. If you know about watches, you can see from afar that the geometry and finish are premium. This watch stands out immediately in contrast to the others.
And the finishing here is really quite serious. The complex transitions of the body, the combination of polishing gives a cool volume.
It doesn't surprise me anymore, but the back cover is blank again. Well, that's how the Japanese are.
Top quality bracelet. Geometry, finish. Everything is top notch. Plus, I want to highlight the incredible clasp. It looks very modern, convenient and comfortable. I don't know if the brand patented its shape, but I've never seen one like it before.
The dial is simple on one side, but the details are beautifully done. An expensive, black shade. I like that the applied labels and logo reveal themselves differently in different light.
By the way, on the dial you can see the important inscription "Made in Japan". Only Citizen's flagship watches are currently made in Japan. Budget watches have long been assembled either in Taiwan or Malaysia. The brand does not hide this.

Sapphire glass, 100 meters of water resistance, and on board a modern and very accurate Japanese automatic movement with caliber 0951. It has a power reserve of 42 hours, but the error is very small - only 4-10 seconds per day. And this also affects the price of this watch.
Diameter - 40 mm, from lug to lug - 48 mm, Thickness - 10 mm, Weight - 158 grams.
The paper dimensions of this watch are deceptive. It feels larger. Please note this. I can firmly and objectively assess its quality and presentation, but I absolutely do not like the way it sits on my hand. But this is also influenced by the fact that the shape of the watch is definitely not mine.

Conclusions
And what can I say? Citizen are beautiful. They keep up with the times. They produce absolutely diverse watches for both men and women. The quality is good, there are many iconic designs, the characteristics are normal, the price is budget.
What more could an ordinary person want?
