Hello everyone, you are on the channel about Feeltime watches, Stanislav is with you as always, and today we will talk about the newest version of the Dumas model from the Spinnaker brand.
Let me remind you that this collection is one of the most popular from Spinnaker and is dedicated to the famous oceanographer Frederic Dumas, who was part of the team of Jacques Cousteau in the last century.
In the review, I will definitely show you the previous generation so that we understand what has changed in the new product.
And at the start I will start with the last generation.
The first thing that makes Spinnaker Dumas stand out is its brutal, octagonal case shape with a diameter of 44 mm.
The model has a beautiful and voluminous dial. Over the entire existence of the collection, a huge number of dial and bezel colors have been released.
According to the characteristics, the previous generation has on board Japanese mechanics with a self-winding Seiko NH35A, water resistance of 300 meters, anti-reflective sapphire and Swiss Super Luminova on the hands and markers.
Equipment of the new product
The first thing that immediately stands out about the new product is its stylish box. In older versions it is well made, but 2 times smaller, more faded and nondescript.
In the new box you will find a detailed manual for setting up the watch and replacing the strap and a warranty card.
Since my store is the official distributor of the brand in Ukraine, you buy only the original from me with a 2-year warranty.
In the main part of the box we see the watch itself, an additional strap and a tool for replacing it.
That is, at least the new product has a more elegant box and equipment. We will evaluate the quality of the strap later.
And yes, a total of 4 new colors have been released. I was only able to bring 3, which I will show during the review. One color was sorted out by suppliers. Did not have time.
Comparison of new and previous versions
Let's immediately compare the previous and new versions.
Apart from the colors, the only changes affected were the mechanism. On board the new product there is a fresh Seik movement with caliber nh34a with a GMT (second time zone) function.
So an additional hour hand has appeared on the dial, and the bezel is now marked with a 24-hour scale.
All sizes and other characteristics remained the same.
I repeat once again that this is sapphire with anti-reflective coating, water resistance of 300 meters and Swiss Super Luminova.
I don't see any changes in the quality of the case. Material: 316l stainless steel. Satin finish with mirror polished transitions between the side and top surfaces for better volume.
The crown is under protective beads.
The back cover of the watch is transparent. You can see the mechanism and custom rotor.
The bracelet has not changed. The quality is excellent. Both the finishing and the geometry are top notch. Moreover, I like the finish even more than the case. Usually it's the other way around.
Folding clasp with double fixation.
Well, Spinnaker knows how to make straps. Excellent quality rubber. Soft, flexible, elastic. Beautiful color, high quality clasp. Plus a huge plus is that the strap has a quick replacement system. This is really very good.
Let me remind you of the sizes .
Case diameter - 44 mm, from lug to lug - 48 mm, thickness - 15 mm, weight - 211 grams.
Despite the fact that the watch is large, it is 18 cm on my small hand. The girth of the watch fits very well.
Before looking at the dial, I want to feel the bezel. It is smooth and perfectly crafted. True, it will not be very convenient to rotate with sweaty hands.
Very soft and smooth rotation. No backlash.
If we compare it with the previous version, the bezel is noticeably tighter, and the clicks are more aggressive.
The dial texture itself has not changed.
At the end there is a mint-colored plate with applied marks, which gives good volume.
Adding volume is the applied Spinnaker logo with a date aperture at 6 o'clock. The date itself is on a black background, so as not to distract your attention.
There are 24-hour markings and 6-hour markings are indicated by am and pm, which means the first and second half of the day.
And let's look at the lum, of course. It must be chic.
I'll start with the price. Today it is 20625 UAH.
The previous version today sells for 17,350 UAH. The difference is about $80.
And I’ll tell you that the difference in price is quite justified by the more expensive box, excellent quality strap and updated mechanism. Plus, the new product itself is usually more expensive in itself. These are already marketing moves of the market.
It is clear that these are all the same good old Spinnaker Dumas in new variations. People love them. They look original. Very masculine and brutal, they are beautifully made and have excellent characteristics.
Another nice thing is that, although this is not a limited series, it is not a streaming series either. Apparently Spinnaker released them in small quantities and they quickly went out of stock for ordering.
