Restarting Phoibos Eagle Ray Compressor
Phoibos Eagle Ray Compressor Watch
Friends, hello everyone, you are on the channel about Feeltime watches, Stanislav is with you as always, and today we will look at watches from the microbrand Phoibos from the Eagle Ray Compressor collection.
Somehow it happened that in my store today there were 3 generations of this collection at once. Quartz watches with GMT function and on rubber straps, the newest generation in 4 colors of matte dials, and recently Phoibos re-released the old version with sunray dials, adding a new, bronze color, as an example of which we will look at the model today.
Phoibos models are supplied in branded boxes. Good quality, pleasant to the touch. And they won’t take up much space.
The design of the watch has not changed at all since its inception. The only thing is that Phoibos constantly plays with the colors of the dials. Here is an example of a watch from the newest generation with a matte dial.
But the quartz version, on the contrary, has a glossy dial, a matte, sandblasted case and a rubber strap.
But in general the forms remain the same. And this suggests that people once got into design, and Phoibos decided that they didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.
The model itself is made in the style of a Super Compressor watch, when the bezel is not located outside, but along the edge of the dial itself under the glass and rotates in both directions using a separate top button.
Let me emphasize that this is not a super Compressor watch with special diving characteristics, which I will not talk about in this video. Only the style is conveyed, which, I repeat, can be immediately recognized by the similar arrangement of the lugs and the internal bezel.
I would like to immediately give Phoibos a huge thumbs up for the fact that the guys make watches with their own design. Unlike many microbrands, which today can only boast of quality, Phoibos have gone further and, instead of the tired homagies, are still doing something of their own.
Although in this model I can’t help but say that the bracelet, although of great quality, is definitely borrowed from the design of the Omega Seamaster. I would like Phoibos to come up with something of their own in future models.
The body is made of 316l stainless steel. The quality of the finish is excellent for the price. Even if this watch was 2 times more expensive, I would say that the quality is excellent. This is what Phoibos knows how to please.
The sides and tops of the lugs are satin-finished. At the transitions between them there is a strip of mirror polishing. Plus, the noticeably convex bezel is well polished, smoothly turning into a convex sapphire crystal with 3 layers of anti-reflective glass.
Anti-glare works great. Readability remains good at all viewing angles and different lighting conditions.
The ears are comfortable. Corrugated for good grip with fingers. On the back side there is an engraving of an octopus - the brand logo. Both lugs are screwed down for a better seal. The water resistance of the model is 200 meters. The watch can be used for diving.
There is also a nice engraving of an octopus on the back of the watch.
Watch dimensions: diameter - 41 mm, from lug to lug - 48 mm, thickness - 14 mm, weight - 174 grams.
On my hand it is 18 cm. The girth of the watch fits well. They will look worse on smaller hands.
The bracelet, as I already said, is of excellent quality. Both the geometry and finishing are excellent. Links on screws. Cool clapper clasp. Fully cast.
The bronze color of the dial is certainly not for everybody. I don't like it at all.
There are much more, again for me, interesting colors. I will definitely show them later.
If we objectively talk about design and quality, then it’s done well.
Central plate in sunburst format. The applied labels look very nice.
Rectangular hour and minute hands with a sharp tip. The second, on the contrary, is thin and has a red tip.
Minute markings in the form of a railway along the edge of the dial. The date is unobtrusively placed at 6 o'clock.
The bezel is lacquered and slopes upward, thus creating a distinct impression of the dial being recessed.
I want to say that the dial looks expensive and voluminous. This is definitely one of the features of the watch.
In terms of characteristics, I did not name only the mechanism. This is a classic for inexpensive microbrands. Japanese mechanical self-winding Seiko NH35A. The power reserve is 42 hours, there is a STOP second, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. An excellent, reliable and trouble-free mechanism.
The current price in my Feeltime online store is 15,600 UAH.
Question: “Are they worth the money?” Rather rhetorical.
Its own design, excellent quality and characteristics. Take the Japanese or Swiss at this price and compare by contrast how much these watches will be in an advantageous position.
In general, I recommend getting your first watch from a microbrand. Then you will experience to the maximum what a truly adult watch is. Popular brands in the low price segment will not give you this feeling.
And you can buy the original in my Feeltime online store. I am the official distributor of the Phoibos brand in Ukraine.
That's all. Until next time. Bye!
