The first watch I ordered 10 years ago was the Citizen Promaster. By the way, I wanted to take them for review today, but they were bought. We still, I think, will get a promaster, but for now let's get acquainted with this wonderful watch, which also attracted my attention, and I hope you will like it.

In general, I have a rather contradictory impression when I approach the stand with Citizen watches. It seems that these are all the same models that were 10 years ago. As if the brand froze at one point.

Citizen really fell out of my horizons for many years and I don’t really understand what the brand is releasing now, but what’s on the shelves is really the most similar to what I was selling 10 years ago.

Nevertheless, these watches sell well, which says a lot. At least the classic never dies. And the design of a good watch also does not become obsolete.

Watch packaging

Let's start with a short unboxing.

The box is really old. Such were in 2012. I would consider the box of this watch purely as an element for transporting watches. There is basically no quality here.

The watch also comes with an international warranty. In our store and in the network of our partners Deca, you buy a watch with a 2-year warranty.

The body of the model is made in the shape of a turtle. It is stainless steel with satin finish and black pvd coating. The quality of the finish is excellent, the spraying looks very much in the style of the watch, but it gets terribly fast and wipes off with a special napkin is not so easy.

Therefore, if you take this watch, be prepared that it will always be in your fingers. And this is probably one of the main disadvantages that I found in this watch.

The dial has a pronounced pilot style. These are large and well-read Arabic numerals and a triangle at 12 o'clock. By the way, all pilot's watches have this triangle. Can you please tell me what it means or what function it performs?

Let's take a closer look at the dial. Interestingly, from a distance it looks like a solid black spot, but in fact it is not. The core has a black and gray color, minute markings on a completely black substrate and already on the sides of the dial are again black and gray with Arabic minute markings and 5-minute intervals. Thus, we have 3 distinct zones on the dial.

Readability is excellent. Hour markings at 12 o'clock, detailed minute markings in the form of little drawings and Arabic markings of minutes along the edge of the dial with an interval of 5 minutes.

And if you are not familiar with Citizen watches, then I will say that the lume of the brand has always been royal.

The watch buttons are moderately large and comfortable. The head is notched for a comfortable grip.

When you start the chronograph, you can see that it is Meka quartz. Meko quartz is when the second hand of the chronograph runs as smoothly as in mechanics. So fans of automation to some extent can get satisfaction.

Watch mechanism

On board this watch is Citizen's own caliber B642. It's a chronograph and it's a solar-powered Eco Drive that can last up to 10 years. The power reserve is 210 hours if the watch is fully charged and left in total darkness.

Other characteristics

For other characteristics, everything is quite simple. Mineral glass and water resistance up to 100 meters. In principle, for a pilot's watch, these are standard characteristics.

Let's take measurements. 41 mm - Diameter, 48 mm - from ear to ear; 12 mm - thickness, 18 mm - width of the bracelet; 126 grams - the weight of the watch on a full bracelet.

This is how they sit on my arm 18 cm in girth. The size is exactly mine and I really like how they sit on my hand. Despite the simplicity of the watch, they look expensive.

A few words about the bracelet. It is fully stamped, which is expected for the Japanese in this price segment. The quality of the finish is good, the clasp is a clapperboard. It is comfortable, looks nice, but in general, of course, the quality of the bracelet is inferior to the case. And this, I repeat, is a normal story for the Japanese, so there are no special comments here.

Who is this watch for?

It is definitely not necessary to be a pilot to make a choice in favor of this model. It is enough to love this style, it is enough to love Japanese watches and understand their pros and cons.

And of the pluses here is an excellent design, excellent case quality, wonderful Eco Drive technology and good performance.

Of the minuses - a budget bracelet and a beautiful coating that requires constant care.

The price of this watch in Ukrainian stores today is 8910 UAH. Expensive or not, as always, it's up to you.
